- Activision Seeking Largest Entertainment Launch Ever!
Activision has hired TBWA to
handle all marketing for "Modern Warfare 2" with one mission
in mind: Make the November 10th release of the game the
"biggest entertainment launch of all time."
Previous records include "Dark
Knight" at $158 million in the opening weekend, and game
releases such as "Halo 3" which brought in over $170 million
in the U.S. on the first day. "Grand Theft Auto IV" sold 3.6
million copies on it's opening day for a total of $310
million.
"We believe the idea that TBWA presented to us delivers on
that goal," said Mr. Jakeman. "What we liked most about the
TBWA campaign is that it's an idea that's big enough to be
articulated in lots of different kind of media ... that is
always the acid test for a great idea." The executions will
likely span TV, print, out-of-home, social media, online,
and PR pushes.
The Prediction for "Modern Warfare 2"?
According to Mr. Hickey, "It's possible that the game could
be one of the largest entertainment releases of all time. If
you assume similar channel unit sales velocity as "Grand
Theft Auto IV", the game could potentially sell through 7.8
million units globally with an estimated retail value of
more than $569 million in the first week ... It's possible
the game could sell through to consumers' 4.6 million units
globally with an estimated retail value of more than $338
million in the first day."

June 15th 2009 - Modern Warfare
2 to have more detail during game play.
Modern
Warfare 2 will be loaded with tons of new minor details that
will make the game more realistic and life like. Here are
some details noted from a snowy Cliffhanger level:
Frost forms on the weapons as the players make their
way through
the snowy Cliffhanger level.
When the scope is brought up to fire off a few shots
you can see the lens slightly frosting over.
As the player climbs his way up a cliff, the sheet
of ice starts to crack and splinter with each hit of the
ice pick.
The snaps on the player's jacket sleeve flutter in
the wind.
Instead of the typical radar screen found in many
shooters, the gun seen in the Cliffhanger level is
equipped with a radar of sorts that uses heartbeats to
detect people in the blinding snowstorm. When activated,
the screen is pulled out from the side of the gun and
the heartbeat sensor shows throbbing blue dots where
people are, not enemies, but people.

- Modern Warfare 2 to Sell 11.1 Million Copies in Two
Months!
In March, Activision revealed that Call of Duty 4: Modern
Warfare had sold 12 million copies after nearly 17 months on
the market. If one analyst is right, it might not take very
long for Modern Warfare 2 to beat that mark
In
a note to investors today, Janco Partners' Mike Hickey
predicted that Modern Warfare 2 would sell through to
consumers 11.1 million copies in less than two months. He
says the game can achieve that mark with the help of a
ramped-up preorder campaign courtesy of Activision, the
more-than-doubled size of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
installed bases since the release of the original Modern
Warfare, and the series' massive fan base.
"On May 26 2009, Infinity Ward's community manager Robert
Bowling 'fourzerotwo' commented that Call of Duty 4 has over
13 million unique users on Xbox 360," Hickey explained. "A
particularly impressive number considering an estimated 30
percent of Xbox's installed base is not connected to Xbox
Live. On January 8, 2009, Bowling estimated that there were
over 4 million unique online users on the PS3 platform and
over 10 million on the Xbox 360. We assume the PS3 unique
users have now eclipsed 5 million based on Xbox 360
identified online user growth of 30 percent."
That puts Hickey's estimated online Call of Duty 4 gamers
at 18 million. Assume that 30 percent of Call of Duty fans
don't take their systems online, and Hickey believes that
the potential market for Modern Warfare 2 consists of a
whopping 25.7 million gamers.
Putting it bluntly, Hickey said, "We believe Call of
Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will likely be the largest video game
release for [calendar year] '09."

- New Weapons for MW2
Check out the video below for some new
guns that we can expect to see in the game. A great job by
this person finding so many new weapons most of us would
have missed while watching the game play demo from E3.

June 3rd 2009
June 3rd was an exciting day at the E3
Conference where finally we have seen some real game play
action. The graphics of the game are improved and we
got a first look at the level of the game played on a
mountain top.
Walking through a snow storm, climbing up
the sides of mountains, and riding snow mobiles while
shooting people sure has people talking. Will November
10th ever get here? Check out the demo below.
Slightly redundant but here is another video of the E3
Conference demo that shows more of the rock climbing scenes
in the game. The single player campaign is proving to be a
worthy competitor to the online. It's going to be a tough
choice which one to play first.

Seems like there are some good discussions on the new game
mixed in with a few Poop-Sockers that have nothing better to do
than post nonsense. I recommend you check it out and join
the discussion though and be sure to tell people about
